Improve Your Life #7: Give Yourself Some Credit
From time to time you may feel that you don’t amount to much. But this is not true. You have to give yourself more credit. Think of the time you helped your friend. That was all you. Decide that what you do is enough and you are worthy. Give it your best shot and be content with the results.
If you are a runner it doesn’t matter if you run 6 minute miles or it takes you 20. The fact that you are a runner is enough, give yourself some credit. If you are struggling with your child it may feel you are not doing enough. But you are, give yourself some credit. If you are doing anything then at the end of the day look back and decide that that was enough for the day, give yourself some credit.
When I quit smoking and put on some weight I understood that I need to start exercising. I started running as an easiest way to burn lots of calories. At that time I hated running. I took real small baby steps by running for 4 minutes and then walking 4 minutes for 20 minutes a day. I was happy with the results and gave myself a pat on the back. It wasn’t hard but it was enough to give myself credit.
Every step you take, every effort you make, is keeping the momentum going and is worth that you give yourself credit for it. You are skilled enough and strong enough to take the next step. You decide what the next step is so make so that you can take it and give yourself some credit for the effort you made.
Don’t sweat this, find just one thing you can give yourself credit for and be happy for it. And repeat it tomorrow and the day after that. Make it a habit that you find every day something to give yourself credit for.
Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live. ~~Anne Sweeney
It is your choice to believe that you did a great job and it is enough.
And don’t forget to celebrate every once in a while.
Now pat yourself on the back!
